Black Bean Brownies

Black Bean Brownies

These brownies were adapted from Whole Foods Market. Gluten-free friendly chewy goodness.


  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs (or 2 ripe bananas, mashed or other egg substitute)
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup roughly chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
  2. Drain and rinse black beans as thoroughly as possible.
  3. In food processor, combine beans and melted butter. Blend until smooth.
  4. Add in cocoa, vanilla and slat. Blend until completely pureed.
  5. Gently stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  6. Grease an 8″ x 8″ pan with non-stick spray.
  7. Pour mixture into pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before cutting.
