If Superman had a favorite fruit, it would probably be a pomegranate. Why? Because only Superman with his super human strength and laser beam eyes could effectively remove the leathery skin and white pulp that guard its tasty red seeds.
Maybe that’s why it’s been hyped as a ‘super food.’ Only Superman would be able to eat it.
Anyone who has ever tried to de-seed a pomegranate knows that this fruit is no apple. Apples are easy. You pick it up, wash it, then eat it. Pomegranates, however, put up more of a fight. Their skin and pulp encase its red juicy seed in a labyrinth of chambers, forcing the consumer to dig and pick their treasure of fruity goodness with surgical precision.

But why go through all this work just to eat a fruit? Really, is it worth it? Well, if you want the health benefits of a pomegranate, a little work is certainly worth the effort.

Ok, the last one we know isn’t scientifically accurate, but the evidence for many claims that make pomegranate a so-called ‘super food’ are also lacking in definitive research and solid evidence. Not to say that pomegranates have been overhyped. They are a very healthy fruit. Just don’t expect to eat one and be able to leap tall buildings and run faster than a speeding bullet.
